Surprise from Waitrose & Partners

On Monday 10th May, our Maintenance Operative, George Wilcox received a surprise from Waitrose & Partners,
when the Town Council was given a £300 gift card for plants to be purchase for Badock Gardens.
Following a visit by Marilyn Chidley back in October when she spoke to George about how valuable the garden had been to the
community during the pandemic, Marilyn said “I could see the hard work George was putting in to creating a more tranquil space, so now spring has arrived Waitrose wanted to make a donation of some hardy perennials for our community to enjoy.
My knowledge of plants is very limited so I will let George spend the gift card as he thinks fit and I look forward to visiting him again
to see what he has achieved.”
Holsworthy Town Council are very grateful of this kind donation and we all thankyou for all your hard work during this pandemic as well.

Between 6.30pm – 9.30pm, damaged caused to one of our wooden picnic bench in the Play Area of Stanhope Park.
Minor vandalism is not acceptable and with the help of CCTV and this incident being reported to the Police,
we hope that this behaviour will be halted.

35 hours per week

 

£19,312 to £20,903 Pro Rata, depending on qualifications and experience.

 

The applicant will be required to deal with day-to-day administration, arranging and attending meetings (including some evenings), taking minutes, dealing with members of the Council and Public.  The applicant will also be responsible for updating the Website and Social Media pages, producing the bi yearly newsletter, and arranging any functions that may take place.

Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook/Internet is essential with working knowledge of Publisher and Sage Payroll desirable. Good interpersonal skills, an ability to work without supervision and to use own initiative is also required.

The position would suit someone who wishes to progress in Local Government.

Your vote is safe – what to expect on polling day
Local elections are taking place this Thursday (6 May).
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed a lot of things over the last year, but it won’t stop you from being able to vote. If you want to vote in person at a polling station on Thursday, measures will be in place to ensure that you can cast your vote safely, including extra cleaning and social distancing.
There will be a few extra things you’ll need to remember to keep yourself and others safe at the polling station:
Wear a face covering.
Hand sanitise before and after you vote.
Bring your own pencil (if you do forget, there will be clean ones available).
Keep a safe social distance from people not in your household or support bubble.

All Devon adults can get free COVID-19 tests
Everyone in Devon over the age of 16 years old can now get free rapid lateral flow device (LFD) COVID-19 tests, and should be using them twice a week.
These tests are important to do regularly because they detect people who are carrying coronavirus but don’t have any symptoms, so could be spreading it unknowingly. They are quick and easy, and the results are usually back within an hour.
Steve Brown, Devon’s Director of Public Health, said:
“One in three people with coronavirus show no symptoms. So even if you feel fine, make it a habit to get tested twice a week so you can help prevent the spread of coronavirus in our communities.
“Together with getting vaccinated when invited to, and remembering hands, face, space and fresh air, regular symptom-free testing is a vital part of being able to ease restrictions and life returning to normal as safely as possible.”
We are working hard to make sure it is convenient to access symptom-free testing at a range of locations across Devon. You can:
be tested at one of our many community testing sites
collect home test kits from any of our community testing sites
collect home test kits from NHS testing locations and pharmacies that are part of the Pharmacy Collect Scheme
have home test kits from the NHS delivered to your home.

New stops for mobile testing centres

Two new stops have been added to our mobile community testing programme. A COVID-19 community testing vehicle will now stop at two additional communities,
Holsworthy and Moretonhampstead.
The mobile centres stop in communities twice a week on given days, offering rapid lateral flow testing to those without symptoms of coronavirus.
The additional stops mean that the times of the previous scheduled visits at all the other Devon County Council-run mobile testing sites have had to change.
Holsworthy and Moretonhampstead are the latest in a list of mobile rapid testing stops, that now include Ashburton, Axminster, Barnstaple, Bideford, Buckfastleigh, Crediton, Cullompton, Dartmouth, Dawlish, Exeter, Exmouth, Great Torrington, Honiton, Ilfracombe, Ivybridge, Kingsbridge, Lynton-Lynmouth, Newton Abbot, Okehampton, Seaton, South Molton, Tavistock, Teignmouth, Tiverton and Totnes.
The revised schedules include location changes to stops in Exeter, Newton Abbot, Crediton, Ashburton-Buckfastleigh and Honiton.
And the day of at least one of the two stops has also changed in both Ivybridge and Tavistock.
There is also a revised timetable for communities with scheduled visits on Bank Holiday Monday, 3 May. All details are on the website.
The website is regularly updated with any changes to the testing service schedule so please do check before you visit.
