Holsworthy Remembers – Armistice Day 2025

Holsworthy Town Council held the Annual Remembrance Day Parade Civic Event on Sunday November 9th, 2025.

A big thank you to all members of the Holsworthy Community for showing up with an incredible display of honour and reverence. The Council would like to acknowledge the little ones who stood quietly and patiently, in the rain, as several community groups laid their wreaths at the War Memorial.

Thank you, Holsworthy!

Holsworthy’s War Memorial Renovations

Holsworthy Town Council are pleased to announce that the War Memorial renovations have been completed.

Earlier this week, the Mayor Councillor Jon Hutchings, had the pleasure of meeting William of Arthur W. Bryant’s Funeral Services to inspect the completed works to Holsworthy’s War Memorial.

All the names have been repainted and the name John Bailey was added in time for this year’s Remembrance Sunday.

John Bailey was left off of the original War Memorial because he was born in the workhouse here in Holsworthy and his name was never put forward, which in those days had to be paid for.

The volunteers in the Holsworthy Museum have worked hard for many years to get his name added. The Town Council investigated if the addition was allowed and agreed to fund the work. With the help of Bryant’s the work has been completed in time for this weekends Act of remembrance which will take place at the war memorial after the service at the Chapel on Sunday which starts at 3pm.

Private John Bailey was born on 17th February 1885 in the Holsworthy workhouse and enlisted into the Devonshire Regiment in January 1908.

He was wounded on 18th December 1914 and later died of his wounds on the 27th December aged 29.

We would like to give a big thanks to Arthur W. Bryant Funeral Service for their swift works at a substantially discounted rate.

Cllr. D. Cole Strimming

Councillors Working Hard

Councillor Cole has been hard at work today, strimming around the memorial trees in Stanhope Park in preparation for Remembrance day.

We’d like to give a huge thank you to Councillor Cole for stepping up and helping out and thank you to all our councillors who have given their time to support the town wherever they can.

Your efforts make a real difference and help keep Holsworthy looking great.
