Carving gifted by Chris Osborne

A Delicate Otter Carving

The Mayor, Councillor Nigel Kenneally, graciously accepted a hand-carved otter, created from part of an ash tree that once stood tall in Holsworthy Memorial car park.

The otter carving was kindly donated to the town by experienced local woodcarver, Mr Chris Osborne.

Thank you Mr Chris Osborne, this wonderful carving will be an excellent addition to the Market Chambers.

It is that time of year again where we ask you to nominate an individual that has served Holsworthy’s Town and people by way of personal good deeds or as part of a larger organisation.

To Summarise, the honour is open to anyone who:

– Is a resident in Holsworthy or the surrounding parishes.
– Have contributed over many years to the community of Holsworthy.
– Have made a difference to the lives of individuals and groups of people within Holsworthy.

The Recipient will hold the Award and the tittle of Honorary Freeman of Holsworthy for one year, with the Freeman’s Cup being returned to Holsworthy’s Town Clerk no later than the 1st March the following year.

Happy New Year from Holsworthy Town Council, we hope you have a wonderful day!

  • Our office is now open and has returned to our usual hours: Monday-Thursday (9am-4pm) Friday (9am-1pm).
  • We will be holding a Coffee Morning in The Memorial Hall in Holsworthy on 11th January from 9am until 12pm.
  • Holsworthy’s Weekly Wednesday Market will be reopening on the 11th January from 9am until 2.30pm.
  • Full Council Meetings & Sub-Committee Meetings will be returning from Wednesday 11th January.

Town Councils Collaborate on No 6 Bus route

As frustrations understandably continue over the changes to the No 6 Exeter bus service, a meeting took place this week between Cllrs from Holsworthy and Bude-Stratton Town Council, the two towns most significantly impacted by alterations to the timetable.

The Deputy Mayor of Holsworthy Cllr Nigel Kenneally, Mayor of Bude-Stratton Cllr Amanda Tame, Holsworthy Town Clerk Vanessa Saunders, Devon County Councillor James Morrish and Cornwall Councillor Peter LaBroy met to discuss the ongoing problems.
Top of the list of immediate concerns was the failure of the return bus to wait in Okehampton for arrivals from Exeter, leaving long waits in the dark and cold for Exeter College students trying to get home. The Cllrs also spoke to Devon County Transport Officers during the meeting, who are very aware of the recent problems.
As a result, Cllrs from both towns are pushing to get the 6 and 6a buses designated a ‘through’ service, which would ensure buses had to wait for connections before leaving Okehampton.
A raft of other issues was discussed – increased cost, infrequency of service, unreliability and inaccessibility of the route.
The Cllrs thanked everyone who has so far commented on the impact the changes to the bus route has had, and urged those who have yet to do so to pass on their experiences as soon as possible.
The Cllrs will provide this evidence to Stagecoach and Devon and Cornwall County Councils and have agreed to meet again before Christmas to monitor progress.
