Holsworthy mayor’s football match: chaos and community spirit

MEN in wellies, a streaker, the mayor in a union flag themed garb so bright it could be seen from the International Space Station and inclement weather.

While it might be a sentence used to pitch a potential sitcom about Holsworthy to big television bosses, in this instance it accurately surmises the chaos in mayoral chains and community fun that greeted the inaugural charity football event in aid of the mayor’s charities, which this year would see Holsworthy AFC and the town’s volunteer-run museum.

Holsworthy Mayor’s Charity Match Day – 27th September 2025

Holsworthy Town Council was delighted to host the Mayor’s Charity Match Day on Saturday, 27th September 2025, at Upcott Field, home of Holsworthy Football Club. The event was held to raise funds for the Mayor’s chosen charities for 2025/26: Holsworthy Museum and Holsworthy Football Club.

The day began on a high note with the Holsworthy First Team delivering an impressive 8–0 victory over Truro Reserves.

The second match provided plenty of entertainment as the Holsworthy Ladies took on a team from Holsworthy Football Club, who were at a distinct disadvantage – playing in wellies! Despite their best efforts, the men’s team was unable to match the determination of the ladies, who won 8–6.

The final match was the Mayor’s Select Team playing against the Holsworthy Veterans. Despite a spirited effort – including having 21 players on the field at one point – the Mayor’s team was defeated by a the Holsworthy Veterans side with a final score of 6–3.

All three matches provided great entertainment for all attendees. Although the weather turned wet later in the day, the event concluded on a lively note with music provided by local DJs from the stage.

The Council extends its sincere thanks to everyone who helped organise the event, to the players who took part and to all who came along to support the day.

A special thanks go to Paparazzi Parrish for capturing the event in photographs.

Funds raised will be shared between the Mayor’s nominated charities: Holsworthy Museum and Holsworthy Football Club.

The final amount is currently being counted and will be announced soon.
