Every Wednesday, from 9 AM to 3 PM (weather permitting), The Square in Holsworthy becomes home to Holsworthy’s Outdoor Market. Local traders gather to offer a wide range of goods, including clothing, shoes, handmade crafts, antiques, jewellery, freshly baked cakes, savoury treats, and much more.

Shoppers can also find a selection of locally sourced products such as honey, chutney, jams, and pies. Whether you’re looking for a unique gift or just want to enjoy the lively atmosphere, the market is the perfect place to support small businesses and discover something special.

TDC’s Household Support Fund

Torridge District Councils’ (TDC) Household Support Fund 6 is now open for applications and will run between October 2024 and March 2025. The process is managed by TDC’s partners at Encompass and the application form can be accessed via the link below. Please also read the information regarding eligible applications before applying.

Eligible applications include:

  • Energy and water. The Fund will primarily be used to support energy bills for any form of fuel that is used for the purpose of domestic heating, cooking, or lighting, including oil or portable gas cylinders. It can also be used to support water bills including for drinking, washing, cooking, as well as for sanitary purposes and sewerage.
  • Food. The Fund can be used to provide support with food, whether in kind or through vouchers.
  • Essentials linked to energy and water. The Fund can be used to provide support with essentials linked to energy and water (for example period products, warm clothing, soap, blankets, the purchase of equipment such as fridges, freezers, ovens, slow cookers), in recognition that a range of costs may arise which directly affect a household’s ability to afford or access energy, food and water. Funding will also be available for such things as insulating a hot water tank, fitting draft excluders to a front door, or replacing lightbulbs.
  • Wider essentials. The Fund can be used to support wider essential which may include but are not limited to, support with other bills including broadband or phone bills, clothing, and essential transport-related costs such as repairing a car, buying a bicycle, or paying for fuel. This list is not exhaustive.
  • Housing costs. In exceptional cases of genuine emergency, where existing housing support schemes do not meet this exceptional need. The Fund cannot be used to provide mortgage support, though homeowners could still qualify for the other elements of The Fund (such as energy, food, water, essentials linked to energy and water and wider essentials). Where a homeowner is having difficulty with their mortgage payments, they should contact their lender as soon as possible to discuss their circumstances as lenders will have a set procedure to assist

Freeman of Holsworthy 2025/26 – Calling for nominations!

Holsworthy Town Council is inviting nominations for the prestigious title of Freeman of Holsworthy for the year 2025-2026. This civic honour is awarded to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the town and its community, whether through personal good deeds or as part of a larger organisation.

Eligibility Criteria:

The honour is open to anyone who:
• Has made a meaningful difference to the lives of individuals or groups in Holsworthy.
• Has contributed to the community of Holsworthy over many years.
• Is a resident of Holsworthy or the surrounding parishes.

The award will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Council in May 2025. The recipient will receive:

• The Honorary Freeman’s Silver Cup (engraved with their name) to hold for one year.
• A framed certificate recognising their achievement.
• An invitation for themselves and their spouse/partner to attend the Court Leet and the St Peter’s Fair Lunch.

Stanhope Play Park – Update

On Monday, 10th March 2025, contractors carried out the removal of the large climbing nest and roundabout at Stanhope Play Park.

This work marks the first stage of an exciting project aimed at improving the park’s facilities. The existing equipment had reached the end of its lifespan and will be replaced with modern, inclusive play structure designed to provide a safe and more engaging experience.

We appreciate your patience while these improvements take place.

Cheque Presentation – Holsworthy Bell Ringers

On Sunday 16th March 2025, the Mayor of Holsworthy, Councillor Nigel Kenneally visited St Peter & St Paul’s Parish Church to present a cheque of £1000.00 to the Holsworthy Bell ringers.

The cheque was graciously received by the bell ringers and will be used toward repairing their bell tower.
