On Monday 22 February, the Prime Minister made an announcement that schools would be able to open to all students from 8 March. We were delighted with the decision and we are looking forward to welcoming all students back to full time education. Returning to school is vital for our students’ education and for their wellbeing. Time out of school is detrimental for young people’s cognitive, social and academic development, no matter how hard teachers work to provide remote learning.

Returning to HCC
You will have seen in the media that in order for students to return to school, they are expected to undertake lateral flow tests, each one being 3 to 5 days apart. The first test should be taken before they start back in their lessons. This testing programme is not compulsory and consent must be given. However, it is strongly recommended because the tests identify asymptomatic carriers of COVID-19 and participating in this programme will help us to reduce the risk of transmission. We will be conducting the first three tests in school, after which students will be expected to take the test at home.

In order to offer the first test to every student before the full curriculum and timetable can resume, we are staggering the start of the return to school for different year groups.

  • Monday 8 March 2021 – The school will be open for Year 7, 10 and 11 ONLY. Remote learning will continue for Year 8 and 9.
  • Tuesday 9 March 2021 – The school be open for Year 7, 8 and 9 ONLY. Remote learning will be in place for Year 10 and 11 on this day.
  • Wednesday 10th March 2021 – All students to attend school and the full curriculum and timetable will resume.

Has the commute changed for ever?
The pandemic has changed many things- in some cases for ever. From social distancing to mask wearing and working from home, Zoom to sanitiser, our habits are very, very different from a year ago. But what will life be like in a year’s time? Will you be commuting on a daily basis again or will there be far more flexibility- saving time, money and the environment?
Alongside Holsworthy Town Council, Torridge District Council is exploring the potential for a vibrant co-working space in Holsworthy, providing low-cost but high quality shared spaces. But before we start developing plans or looking for funding we’d love to know your thoughts, please. If you would love to meet other interesting businesses, use a meeting room, form collaborations or even just get out of the house to work every now and then, please go to www.bit.ly/HolsworthyWorkHub and give us your thoughts.
The consultation will be open until March 31st and is designed to ensure that we can gather the right details and gauge interest for any future funding which might emerge through the successful Devon Work Hubs programme or other routes which come forward as part of the Build Back Better agenda. The offer will need to be relevant to people from across the region and create a supportive, vibrant community of users and offer access to the right facilities, such as printers, a bookable meeting room and, of course, fantastic wifi. Town centres are also changing, so this proposal will seek to create a more vibrant scene and ensure that Holsworthy is an ever-more appealing place to work- whilst also boosting town centre footfall and the businesses within the town. So please come and get involved in this first step.

Fatal RTC A39 Kilhampton Bude

At approximately 5.55pm on Wednesday 24th February 2021 Police were informed of a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A39 between Bude and Kilkhampton between a black Mini Cooper and a grey VW Passatt.
One driver sustained minor injuries and attended North Devon District Hospital. A 60 year old male driver was conveyed to Derriford Hospital but was sadly pronounced deceased on arrival.
Local neighbourhood officers and officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team attended along with a Forensic Collision Investigator and Scenes of Crime Officer.
A full investigation of the scene took place and officers are working to establish the cause of this collision.
Police would like to thank the public for their patience while they investigated the scene and are appealing for any witnesses of this collision or may have dash cam footage to telephone 101 quoting Log 714 24/02/2021.

Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust ‘Meet the Buyer’ events for M&E four-year multi supplier framework contract for all schools in the Trust.

About this Event

The Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust, in conjunction with the Schools’ Buying Hub SW (funded by the Department for Education) will be hosting a series of Meet the Buyer events to which interested parties are invited. The focus is specifically on mechanical, electrical and general building contractors for a four year multi-supplier framework contract for all schools in the Trust, envisaged from 1 June 2021. There will be a short introduction to the Trust, our family of schools and the scope and timeline of the invitation to tender, as well an opportunity to hear from all interested parties, especially SMEs, to help us shape our invitation to tender. We hope the event will create more transparency with our tendering process and increase the focus on delivering social value.
